The beach is dominated by stones, so it is important to remember footwear that can be used on the beach as well as in the water. The beaches on this part of Gran Canaria are invaded by locals from the northern part of the island every weekend. They leave the city and dominate the scenery at the beach.

To observe the local families is interesting as they often comprise 10-20 individuals that take a small restaurant, containing a lot of food as well as some moonshine, to the beach. In the kitchen tent, various delicacies are served, and tables, chairs and covers are arranged according to a specific pattern and the sun, while the family head is resting in the shade.

Some tourists believe that these locals are noisy and annoying which might be true to a certain extent; however, you have to remember that they live in a city and need to relax and rewind when they come south to enjoy the sun, ocean and fresh air. In addition, it is part of their culture and some people travel to Gran Canaria to experience this way of life. If you want peace and quiet, you should stay away from the beach at San Agustin on weekends.
